Moving day is coming soon - register now
by Stew Stryker | 11:58 PM (in General)

I'll be shifting this web log from Upsaid to it's new location on the WordPress site very soon, like next week.

Since you'll need to sign up with WordPress in order to leave comments, I'd ask you to sign up now. I want to keep a lively, interactive site so please register to continue our conversations. You will not need to give your real name or even share your email address. There have been plenty of discussions lately and I think it'd be good if we had a better idea of which anonymous person was writing, if that makes any sense?

The new site is http://windsorvt.wordpress.com/

Please sign up on the WordPress.com signup form here.

Just sign up with the username you want, then please leave a comment on the Windsor, VT blog's , so I know people are joining up.

I'd be very happy to have more people contributing articles as well. If you want to become an author, simply say so when you comment on the Welcome topic, and I'll add you as an author.

In memory of Bert Frothingham
by Stew Stryker | 8:01 AM (in General)

Friends of Bert and the Paradise Park Commission have organized a tribute to this wonderful woman who gave so much to Windsor over her long life. We've ordered a stone bench to be installed on the edge of Lake Runnemede, which will have the following inscription:

"In loving memory of Bertha Frothingham. Her devoted spirit and contributions to Windsor live on in the hearts of all who knew her, in both the community and beyond." -- Paradise Park Commission & Friends 2006

This bench is substantial, weighing over 400 pounds, both to be lasting and to discourage vandalism.

The Paradise Park Commission has some funds that can help cover the cost, but we're also hoping people who knew Bert will donate to this memorial.

Please send your donations to: Paradise Park Commission bench, c/o Town of Windsor, PO Box 47, Windsor VT 05089

Thank you for your generosity.

Been there
by carl goulet | 8:32 AM (in General)

Does this sound familiar? A new administrator or department head, usually an "outsider," comes to Windsor. He begins asking the long-time/life-time employees to do things a little differently. They become unhappy being pushed outside of their comfort level and soon are angry with the new boss. After all, he knows nothing of Windsor or how we do things around here. They find a sympathetic ear with one or two or four select board members who then become involved in a covert or not so covert campaign to undermine the new boss. Soon people are jumping up and down at marathon SB meetings over personnel/personal issues while the important stuff like social and infrastructure issues languish in neglect. Then, resignations fly like leaves in the fall.

If you don’t want to work here, quit. If you are not being asked to do something morally or ethically compromising, do it. If you have to do things differently or work a little harder due to changing circumstances, get used to it. That's how it happens out here in the real world. Just because you’ve lived or worked here for generations does not guarantee special privileges. You might win a battle but Windsor looses.

Matt Lauer interviews President Bush on Today Show
by Stew Stryker | 12:44 PM (in Politics)

I know this isn't about Windsor, but I feel strongly that everyone should read yesterday's interview of President Bush suggesting that secret CIA prisons aren't against the law and admitting that they tortured prisons there.

Please read this interview excerpt and make up your own mind:

Matt Lauer interviews President Bush

You can also see a clip of the interview on that page by clicking the Launch button.

Vote in Primary today
by Stew Stryker | 12:40 PM (in Voting)

Please, it's quick and easy.

You don't have to register for a specific party to vote. In fact, if you're registered for a specific party, you don't even have to vote in that party's primary. You just choose one of the four parties holding primaries (Democratic, Liberty Union, Progressive or Republican), and throw the ballots for the other three out.

Contested STATEWIDE races:

  • United States Senate (Class 1):
    • Democrats
    • Republicans
  • Lieutenant Governor:
    • Democrats
  • Attorney General:
    • Republicans
Contested U.S. HOUSE races:
  • At Large:
    • Republicans

Windsor Sports Talk
by rudy hanecak iii | 6:12 PM (in Events)

- Fred Patterson | 09.06.06 | 6:04 pm

There is a lack of sports talk here so I'll start with my two cents on this subject. In the form of a question, who are the Windsor Harriers? and what ever happend to the Windsor Yellow Jackets????

Mysterious odor on the corner of Union and Main
by rudy hanecak iii | 3:16 PM (in Windsor Police Department)

For the last few weeks I have heard people express concern that they could smell some sort of chemical odor near the mill brook at the Union/Main intersection. This odor was investigated by Officer Lakin and the source was found. The source is a chemical used to treat burnt wood and prevent mold after a fire. The people applying the chemical might have gone extra-heavy on their application, which is why it was so strong a few weeks ago. It also explains why the smell is not as strong now. I would like to thank our Police Department for the quick investigation into the source as a chemical smell could indicate a more serious and criminal problem..........Rudy

Paradise Park ups and downs
by Stew Stryker | 7:37 AM (in General)

I don't know how many people visit Paradise Park on a regular basis, but it's suffered from extreme vandalism this summer.

  • Picnic table burned beyond usefulness
  • A wood and metal park bench ripped out of the ground and burned in the fire pit so only the metal frame was left
  • Rails ripped off the bridge crossing Kimball Brook
  • graffiti on walls of the lean-to in the old park and on the gazebo on Lake Runnemede
  • litter on the trails
