Farmer's Market

I must recommend this cookbook.

Simply in Season
It's put out by MCC (Mennonite Central Committee) and it's in the same spirit as the More With Less cookbook, only focused on in-season produce. I don't buy cookbooks. I get rid of them, actually. I've gotten rid of at least half of my cookbooks. This one, though, is worth buying.

And Jo, you know how you said on the phone that you wanted a 'Mac and Cheese' for veggies? Cauliflower Gratin should be what you're looking for, but substitute whatever cheese makes your family most happy. (PS - email me if you get time, my email ate your address. Naughty email program!)

Thank you for this! My vegetable repertoire is pretty feeble, and our library system actually has this (with multiple holds, but hey).

And about cauliflower: I hated it as a kid, mostly because it was always waterlogged and tasteless, but I've discovered it's an incredibly versatile veg. I use it in place of potatoes, in forms from cubes to mashed, and if shredded, it can be used like rice. Good stuff.

Funny, I just picked that cookbook up a few weeks ago at, of all places, a rest stop off the Ohio Turnpike. I keep searching for a used copy of the More with Less book as well. It looks really nice and helpful; I imagine it will be very inspiring as time goes by, and a help for all that lovely farmers market produce. It is currently packed away with all of the cookbooks in anticipation of a move, however. :)
