[4:41 am] Sindy & Kay At Play

18 Apr 2003 @ 00:42, by Richard Carlson

There is no worse torture than knowing INTELLECTUALLY about love and the way.

---Jelaluddin Rumi

Our life in this world---
to what shall I compare it?
It is like a boat
rowing out at dawn,
leaving no trace behind.

---Sami Mansei

It cuts deep---
I step on my dead wife's comb
where we slept.

---Buson

I've written before in these pages about making new friends online, a phenomenon probably taken in welcoming stride by younger folks...and with rather more caution by those of us at varying degrees of up and over the hill. With all the nasties lurking about the Internet, ready to plant their cookies indelibly and pop up maddeningly, eager to steal your identity---and your soul, and adept at inviting people to secluded realtime for evil purposes, it seems a miracle when 2 people actually hit it off and form a friendship.

I've also related how I happened to meet Kay ( http://www.upsaid.com/jazzolog/index.php?action=viewcom&id=9 ) and it occurs to me significant that the manner of it was like most of the other relationships I've established as well. This speedy delivery approach to meeting still is so new to me that I don't know if that manner just reveals things about me---or whether it is typical for others as well. Since I don't have occasion to use the Personals or other ingenious methods for making new acquaintances available to Singles, I find myself discussing topics of this and that here and there in a few groups that I like. What seems to happen is that sometimes sides get chosen and more often than I like, the insults begin. Some people appear to live for these times, like warriors---and in the heat of these battles, some people, including myself, move to support, comfort, and encourage through private IM or email contact. Most of my Internet friends were met that way.

But sometimes, and preferably, two spirits find themselves in the same site...and just notice things kindred between them. I noticed Sindy almost immediately upon looking around New Civilization Network ( http://www.newciv.org )...but I couldn't figure out what the heck she was about. It couldn't be there was a being who simply was determined to be totally positive, spreading cheer and beauty everywhere she went. And a lot of her posts were just plain silly...but then she had a Log in which she talked about Tantra. What gives with this person? I felt great energy emanating from her and thought she must have influence at NCN---maybe in WorkGroups or something...which still were peculiar mysteries to me then.

I wouldn't think immediately that Kay and Sindy would become such friends that they would seek out a realtime meeting. In fact, if you just look at that picture up there, you might wonder what possibly these 2 figures have in common. Well, I'll tell you what I think: they both have a bright and clear optimism about life that can darned well bowl you right over---and while you're thus relaxed, heal you for good measure. They believe in the miraculous everywhere around us...and they see those eternal sparkles all the time. And these girls are funny. I'm not sure I can imagine all the laughter that has rocked Trinidad these last few days---but I actually believe I can hear it all the way up here. And Wayne Moody is there too with Kay, and while I don't know him very well the photos I've seen make me think he is a giant and rollicking man. Nor do I know anything of Sindy's family, but Kay indicates stuff is hopping with them all the time.

I don't remember the particulars of getting into the mystery of Sindy, but I think it was during one of the scrapes I seem to attract around here---and one day there was an email. Sindy wanted me to know what a precious treasure a healthy outlook is in life. The effect was immediate and empowering. That much of a personal contact was so wonderful that I was transformed into one of those unconditional-love things with her right away. Some people are just like that I guess, and I need to say how grateful I am that they exist anywhere at all.

Kay has that way about her too, and so it was that naturally these two have gravitated together in the corridors and rooms that make up the New Civilization Network...and elsewhere on the Internet as well. They both like true sentiment and matters of the heart. They are teachers and seers of rather different perspectives, and that matters not a pin compared to the love that they share. It is wonderful to be around, and I am honored neither minded if I try to sing them a song today.

kay: 21 Apr 2003 @ 05:50: Thank you
Dearest Richard,
This is Kay down in wonderful Trinidad with Wayne and Sindy and her family.
The love of fun that is so much apart of her here in NCN is very much reflected in who she is down here. Her husband and son are both DJ's down here and so Wayne got to play the steel drums. I have a picture of that and of me and Sindy dancing the calypso.

We also went to Tobago and into the rain forest for a hike and here in Trini we went into a 1000+ acre of natural preserve. No TV and no Phones. Cell phones worked in some places if we were up high enough to get the signal. Oh the plants and animals are amazing. There was one tiny bird about the size of a hummingbird that was irridescent blue black with a snow white beard. He also had very dark red-wine irredescent breast. Orchids and plumeria grow everywhere and all kinds of fruits. There are natural springs that we drank from.

Sindy's hubby is an outstanding cook and has been waiting on me and Wayne hand and foot. He just handed me a egg and cheese sandwich. I already had fruit a while ago. He made a fish and curried rice dish the other day. I am going to have turtle too. Not too sure about that but I will give it a try.

I went on a huge ferry over to Tobago and there was this little boy and girl that I played ball with for a couple of hours. They were the cutest little kids that I have ever seen. I have pictures of them too. The people here are beautiful and happy. They have a deep sence of family. There are the begining of much drugs here from Columbia and it is fast becoming a problem. I guess the world has problems where ever a person goes. But it seems like a more natural way of life still down this way. Many people still have their gardens and their goats and milk cows.

One thing that I found interesting was their religious beliefs. It is a mix of the old ways in with Christianity. They have on Holy Week with stuffed figures to represent Pilate, Herrod, Judas and others. The people beat these figures with clubs for hurting Jesus and putting him to death. These figures are called Boboli.

It is still pretty early here and the family are some awake and some still asleep. I am having the time of my life. Sindy sends her love to everyone as well as me and Wayne.

Love,
Wayne, Kay, Sindy and Family
