#15 Kathleen: Yo Micah. Your blog has gotten to be my favorite alternative to working.I just put on Bela Fleck playing classical/baroque on banjo (Perpetual Motion) hoping it would motivate me towards writing my psych reports. Intelligence testing continues to be interesting, partially because there are so many questions about the validity of the construct of intelligence, yet something about it continues to prove statistically consistent and predictable. I was challenged recently by trying to explain the Bell curve to a high school drop-out mountain man who thinks his daughter is a genius (IQ=107) and should be in the gifted program. (add mouthful of spit tobacco to colloquialisms for best result). We ended up blaming the whole criteria on state DPI regulations and sent him home with the addresses of Carolina reps and congressfolk so that he could "talk some sense into them". Good luck to him, but I was proud that he didn't just lie down and take it because a bunch of eggheads said his daughter was just average. He knows his daughter is gifted because he can't conceive of reading for pleasure. Good to support your kids though, and I applauded his efforts. Her efforts too, because there is a big genetic factor to IQ that she is trying to overcome.
