Hot Tubs update

A quick update on my hot tubs pages. I removed the affiliate links to the merchant in the end. I have been a little bit naughty in as much as I have left their banners and images on the site. Adsense has increased substantially since.

Having passed 6,000 valid potential customers to the site I feel that they have had a free ride out of me for long enough. I will still be looking for a decent merchant to pass my traffic to, or, failing that, someone who will wholesale small amounts or drop ship perhaps.

Affiliate rip off

Having tested the affiliate market for over a year now I find that there are two types of merchants. The type that sign up to decent affiliate / merchant sites like Affiliate Future and Web Gains and the ones that have their own set up. I would be very wary to deal with the latter any more. I have had nothing but bad experiences of independent sites. The hot tub affiliate pages that I have have passed substantial traffic to the merchant for about a year now. I have had not one sale credited to my account. I have had not one email answered by the merchant. I find it hard to believe that they are not ripping me off. Unfortunately, i don't have another UK option at the moment and at least I make the adsense money from the site and get to use the merchant’s images. Though, rest assured I look for a new merchant all the time.

I have other merchants that start off being great. Or looking great at least. Then the communication peters out and I hear nothing even though I continue to ask for feedback and send enquiries and leads.

It leads me to believe that the only way to deal is to do it through a reputable broker type site.

Affiliate glitches - More of!

After a shaky start with some of the merchants - you know who you are! Everything has been running fairly smoothly. Although, I am still to see any decent returns from the affiliate mini sites, they are getting traffic and some hold pretty decent google rankings. I suffered a major set back. The site that I make my mini sites on suffered a google blow. I lost all ranking for the site. It was like I had been banned - though I was certain I had done nothing wrong. So, I lost all real work that comes in from the site (I also do all the work that comes in), I lost all the adsense revenue, all the affiliate revenue - everything was in the google toilet.

I was in that toilet for a solid month and then suddenly, all ranking was restored as if by magic. I have no real idea why, though do know that google were tweaking some buttons or other.

In the meantime, I transferred one of the mini sites onto another strong site that i have, though not anything like as close to being "on topic" and surprisingly, it's doing wquite well. Not as good as where it was but not bad. All in all, a very interesting experiment. I will try some further tests on the domain and see how it responds to other categories.

Hot Tubs and Threshhold passed

Hot Tubs

It's been a long time coming, but I can finally receive my first payment from one of the affiliate brokers. Yes, I have at last earned a measly £100 in over three months! I have to say I was somewhat hoping that I might be making more than I actually am. But, on the plus side, the site is growing; it's offers a larger range of products, adsense is up and slowly growing (probably making more on adsense than all my affiliate programs put together). I probably still have too much to learn to be earning the decent money, and perhaps one of the lessons I need is picking the right merchants and products?

My latest pages are Hot Tubs I am having difficulty believing that I will actually sell any hot tubs. But as I said, sometimes it's the content that counts towards having a fully rounded site, so sometimes I will have to put up pages just for content's sake and not sales sake. I have played around with a company in Canada that wrote the text on the hot tub pages. I am not sure if I will continue along that track (the content writing part). I quite like the copy the produce, but it's more money that I am further in the hole for. I might take a break from the affiliate pages on that site and start on another of my sites and target something not house or garden related. Perhaps it's time to try something really competitive like insurance - I will have to think about that.

Lawn Mowers

Lawn Mower Pages

After the debacle with the crappy merchant (whom I haven't decided to name or not) I have not put any new pages up for a little while.

I have now, about two weeks ago finished my

lawn mowers

mini site and already had my first sale! Not that that was anything to get excited about, but the speed in which the sale was made after putting up the site was fast. Nothing since, however!

I have targetted Lawn Mowers as the general theme, on the secondary pages I have targeted petrol lawn mowers, electric and cordless lawn mowers and lawn rakers and strimmers. I have had to find another merchant so I can also add ride on lawn mowers and tractor lawn mowers.

So far I have made less than £100.00 (though I am probably close to that).

I have to say that so far it's been hard work for little return. I am probably making more from the google ads on the mini sites than I am for the products themselves. I am hoping that things will change soon, although if it were going to, i would have thought it would be before now as we are well into spring.

I have already planned my next pages and will log them here. don't know when I will decide that it isn't working for me. A few more sites I expect.
